Boxing glove size guide
Glove ounces describe weight, not a universal hand-compartment size. Fit can differ between models. Choose based on your hand fit, intended use, and your coach’s requirements.
How to measure your hand
- Use a flexible tape measure around your dominant hand, just below the knuckles. Exclude your thumb.
- Keep the tape snug without squeezing and record the circumference in inches or centimeters.
- When asking for sizing help, tell us whether you measured with or without hand wraps. Check the actual glove fit while wearing your usual wraps.
Available glove weights
| Weight | Choosing your glove |
|---|---|
| 8 oz | Light competition use only: maximum one or two fights. Not suitable for sparring or regular training. See the limited-use note below. |
| 12 oz | An option to discuss with your coach for bag and pad training. Confirm fit and suitability before ordering. |
| 14 oz | A heavier training option. Check your gym’s glove-weight requirements before using it for sparring. |
| 16 oz | An option commonly considered for sparring. Your coach should confirm whether it suits your size, experience, and training partner. |
These are general starting points, not a guaranteed fit or event approval. Our current glove selection is 8, 12, 14, and 16 oz.
8 oz match gloves: limited use
Our 8 oz match gloves are intended for light competition use only, with a maximum of one or two fights. They are not suitable for sparring or regular training. Inspect them before every use and stop using them sooner if the padding, seams, or leather show damage. Confirm event approval with your coach or organizer before ordering.
Training, sparring & competition
For bag and pad work, prioritize a comfortable fit and a glove suited to your training. For sparring, follow your coach’s and gym’s requirements. For competition, confirm both the required glove weight and approved glove model with the event organizer before ordering.
Check the fit
- Wear your usual hand wraps when checking fit.
- The glove should feel secure without painful pressure, numbness, or excessive movement.
- You should be able to form a comfortable fist with your thumb seated naturally.
- If you’re between options, ask for help rather than assuming a heavier glove has a larger hand compartment.
